Energize your study of sound with six sets of hands-on science activities and a corresponding website! Lesson plans, lab sheets, related website, flash cards, review sheet, and assessment are all included in this sound unit.

, these activities are classroom-tested and kid-approved. Students explore scientific concepts through hands-on exploration. Then they make their own generalizations. An interactive website allows further exploration and clarifies concepts.

For each guiding question, students conduct two or three simple (but powerful) sound experiments then make generalizations. Most materials are commonly found in classrooms or teachers' kitchens. (Materials are listed in the preview. I only needed to purchase a $3 Slinky and borrow a tuning fork from the music teacher for this unit.)
This product includes lesson plans, lab sheets, review, and assessment. A companion website, Exploring Sound, was created to share with students. It includes focused reading with relevant links, lab sheets, review materials, and opportunities for extra exploration. Suggested Sequence for Sound Unit:
- Use the true/false pretest to determine students’ understanding of sound.
• Option 1 - Set up all activities as sound centers, rotating small groups every five or ten minutes.
• Option 2 - Conduct one or two sound experiments each day.
Read and Explore
- Use text and videos found in the Exploring Sound website to reinforce and expand students’ understanding of sound.
- Have students study sound concepts using flash cards and study guide.
- Administer the true/false posttest to assess students’ growth.
