SOUND AND RHYME: HIGH SCHOOL POETRY LESSON AND CREATIVE WRITING uses Gwendolyn Brooks's poem "We Real Cool" to teach the concepts of alliteration, assonance, consonance, rhyme, end and internal rhyme, slant rhyme, euphony, and cacophony. The lesson contains definitions, a link to the poem, questions to consider while reading, a creative writing exercise with pre-writing, and questions for wrap-up.
In addition to the lesson, the download includes teacher instructions, a list of further resources, and a breakdown of the Common Core alignment.
