Welcome to stage 3 of Sounds Good Reading.
Stage 3 assumes that your child is confident reading the CVC (Consonant Vowel Consonant) words from Stage 1 and the CCVC & CVCC words from stage 2. If this is not the case, please repeat these stages.
So take your time and enjoy. Reading should not be a battle. Little and often is the best way forward, making learning to read a part of daily life and not something to be endured. Your child will enjoy this programme and you will enjoy teaching him. It has been put together based on years of experience and test driven with many children. If, however, your child is not enjoying the sessions this programme gives you plenty of scope to use your imagination to find a way that appeals to your child. Simple things like coloured paper and pens make a big impact at this stage. Small white boards that can be written on and wiped off are a lot of fun as are magnetic letters for the refrigerator.
Also, make use of the card stock of pictures and sounds provided throughout the programme. Think of imaginative ways to use them such as sorting and matching activities. Children love games and some especially love games where there is a chance of them winning, so make sure you play with them. I will leave it up to you to dream up some fun.
Sounds Good Reading is a programme of reading activities based on a phonics approach to reading the English language.
Our language is one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn. Sounds Good Reading is a programme designed to de-code our language. These de-coding skills, once learned, can be applied to reading long after this programme has been completed.
Sounds Good Reading does not teach by rules!
Rules have exceptions and can be more confusing than helpful. Sounds Good Reading teaches essential skills which can then be applied to the whole programme.
Sounds Good Reading is presented in a number of stages and may be commenced at whichever stage is appropriate for your child. Provided the basic skills are mastered, you can start the programme at the most appropriate point, allowing flexibility for you and your child.
Each stage consists of a number of units covering the skills, sounds and words for that unit. Within each unit are a number of activities, worksheets, and word cards for you to work through. Ideal for homework too!
