This powerpoint is used to help beginners understand and practice the basic sounds of the Spanish language. The slides go through the alphabet and pairs each consonant with each of the vowels. (ex. BA BE BI BO BU)
I have students practice saying B and P with their hands in front of their mouths so they can try to say them without pushing a lot of air out. (this also helps cut down on the giggles when they say PA PE PI PO PU)
I usually do half of the alphabet one day and half the next. After each day of practicing sounds I usualy do a dictation where I sound out words for the students based on the sounds that we just learned.
This activity really helps with pronunciation and spelling.
The sounds with a * by them are to let the students know that those sounds are different from the others in the same column.
The K and W columns are lower case because they are not commonly used letters in Spanish. I usually have a dictionary handy to show them how small those sections are.
