This unit involves students writing the soundtrack of their life, using songs and their analysis. It is written in the form of a letter to a listener where they relate the songs to their own lives.
I use this unit in high school English resource classes. I preface this writing assignment by reviewing poetry devices through a PowerPoint I've created named "Literary Devices" which is on my list of products and available for FREE.
This is a step-by-step guide through the whole writing process. It includes an outline that is very useful for students who have difficulty with writing assignments and also includes a song analysis sheet that we use to review songs of my choice before the students choose their own for their project. It usually takes 1-2 weeks to complete but that is solely dependent upon the interest and needs of the students.
