What REALLY happened when the "shot heard round the world" was fired?
Who fired it?
Students will analyze a variety of primary and secondary sources to try and determine the answer to those questions, and, since it is hard to determine what REALLY happened, they will learn a valuable lesson about historical perspective.
This Powerpoint includes an editable chart with links to
1) a map of Boston, 1775
2) A battle animation
3) a video and article from The History Channel
4) a PBS video
5) an eyewitness account from a Colonial militiaman
6) an eyewitness account from a British officer
Your students will use these links to provide details about specific aspects from the battles. This provides an excellent basis for class discussion and great outline for compare and contrast writing.
