This lesson truly helps history come alive! Students will read background information about the Battle of Blood River, which was fought between Zulus and Afrikaners in South Africa. This was one event that led to the development of apartheid. Then, students will complete two charts that helps them understand the perspectives of the Zulus and Afrikaners. Finally, students will write a pep talk to motivate the Zulus to fight against the Afrikaners to defend their land, way of life and families. Students will present their pep talks to the class and work on their presentation skills.
