This is a South American Culture packet/handout with a short paragraph of information on each of the Spanish-speaking countries in South America, a map of the Spanish speaking word, a blank map of South American countries for students to fill in, a blank chart that allows student to categorize the information in the paragraphs, and 6 reflection questions to which students can respond.
It also includes a graphic demonstrating the flags and languages of the non-Spanish speaking countries.
Each paragraph includes the flag of each country, currency, population, indigenous population, popular tourist attractions, and the main languages spoken in each country.
I use this to introduce the map of South America. After introducing the culture, each class I ask students to memorize an additional 3 countries/bodies of water until they have mastered all 13 countries and both Oceans.
We are usually able to memorize the map within 6 class periods.
The blank map has 5 spaces for "Map Check" grades, so students can track their progress. Usually I have the student keep the filled out tracking map in their folder as a study tool.
