This presentation covers the institution of slavery in South Carolina during the"antebellum" or "before war" period in SC. It covers why slavery was still popular, why SC wasn't making laws like some northern states that eventually would free slaves, the effects of the cotton gin on slavery, and the effects of all of the cotton production on South Carolina's nutrient rich soil. Includes discussion questions at the end for class review!
This is a great presentation if you teach South Carolina history and covers all of the material in the related standards and highlights from the support documents. Standard: SS 3-4.2
