This presentation starts with a review of the destruction caused by William Sherman's "March to the Sea." It discusses the effects of the march and the blockade on the economy and the people in the state, how the roles and how the Civil War affected different groups and classes including: the elite, the working classes (middle/lower/independent farmers, etc...), women, African Americans (slaves). The presentation also covers the growing racial tensions in the south at the time.
Includes discussion questions at the end of the presentation!
