This difficult activity helps students to develop deep knowledge of the vocabulary related to South Carolina Standard 8-2. Students are given a long list of terms that they have had prior exposure to (if this is done towards the end of the unit) and they will be asked to complete two tasks: categorize the terms into groups and develop hypotheses and prove them.
This is a great activity that can be used for assessment, classwork, or homework. It is a great review, and it really helps students develop their skills of analysis.
I find a lot of students struggle to make good hypotheses in the beginning, but as they repeat this activity in different units, their ability to make sophisticated arguments and gather evidence increases dramatically.
