South Carolina - Jim Crow, Textiles, & Technology Assessments and Vocabulary
Also INCLUDED in this South Carolina History Complete Set (For the entire year!) South Carolina History Complete Set - Entire Year of Lessons
Standard: SS 3-5.1
This set includes:
♦ Thorough presentation starts with the "boom" of textiles in SC, why they were built here (fall line rivers, hydroelectric power, cotton grow near by), the ups and downs of the cotton industry, the effect the World Wars had on cotton and textiles, the textile town growth, and the eventual downfall of the textile industry in SC. It covers how most cotton farmers moved to other crops, and why, the Jim Crow laws and how it effected life in the state, the Supreme Court's ruling on "separate but equal," and how it didn't really help the situation here in the state, and the eventual growth of technologies such as the telephone, electricity, and the automobile. It covers how these changed the state, and how many could not get access due to rural living or money.
♦Assessments with pros and cons for working in textiles or cotton, response questions, point of view responses on topics concerning the Jim Crow laws, and an extended response question.
♦ Three way vocabulary cards for matching, study, or memory game
♦ Keys for the assessments
This is a great set if you teach South Carolina history and covers all of the material in the related standards and highlights from the support documents.
When using the PDF as a presentation, make sure to go to "View" and then to "Full Screen". It will show just like a PowerPoint!
