This presentation starts with Lincoln's failed plan to reunite the states, and explains how the federal troops came to SC to enforce the new laws being passed such as the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments giving former slaves freedom, rights of a citizen, and the right to vote. It covers the changing of the state constitution, how African Americans were now a part of the political process, the new public school system, sharecropping, beginnings of textile mills, and the pros and cons of each. Also covers the growing tension between the races and the establishment of organizations like the Ku Klux Klan.
Includes discussion questions at the end of the presentation!
