This presentation starts with a review of why the state decided to secede from the Union, and goes on to cover the formation of the Confederate States of America with a constitution, the election of Jefferson Davis as president of the CSA, the events at Fort Sumter that led to the first shots of the war, Robert Smalls and his contributions during the Civil War, the lack of battles in SC - with how the Union took Port Royal and tried to take Charleston, to the "March to the Sea" by Union General William Sherman, which led to the end of the war.
Includes discussion questions at the end of the presentation!
This is a great presentation if you teach South Carolina history and covers all of the material in the related standards and highlights from the support documents. Standard: SS 3-4.4
