Thorough presentation begins with World War 2, the effect it had on the Great Depression and the state economy, and the creation of many jobs. We discuss the shifts in employment: as many men and women left to fight in the war, women began taking over factory jobs, and farmers turned to crops that could be harvested via machine. African Americans still faced discrimination and segregation, despite an order by President Roosevelt to employ them (giving during the wartime). We discuss how the economy still thrived after the war, the Cold War, and the establishment of military bases and nuclear plants in SC.
Includes discussion questions at the end of the presentation!
