This is a smartboard file for the southern region of the United States. It is intended for older elementary students, probably 4th or 5th. It could be played as a internet scavenger game. There are 5 puzzle challenges. The first one is finding answers to some questions about each state. The second is figuring out which state nicknames are real and which are fake. The third one is a face matching game where they have to figure out which face goes with which state. The fourth one is a scrambled word game where there is a clue and the state abbreviation given and the students have to figure out the scrambled word that goes with the clue. The last one is a beat the timer game about the state capitols. The students could work independently or in groups to find the answers. Each game lends itself well for getting the students to discover facts about each state that are not always known or obvious. It is intended to be fun! The slides can be modified to fit your individual class needs. The answers are provided.
