Film is often a nice diversion during novel study. I have used the film, Soylent Green, to break up the intensity of the novel, 1984. It is effective, since not only was the film produced in 1973, but students generally love the - now comical - 1970s interpretation of the future. (Notice that the people are not attached to a communication device as people are in the 21st century.)
The product is a two-page worksheet students can complete while they watch the film. Also, a possible substitute assignment (as long as you have the film).
The film is NOT RATED, but there is no questionable language or inappropriate scene - unless you consider Charleton Heston's final words... :)
