Students learn about five different space objects/concepts (stars, comets, meteors, asteroids, and gravity) while participating in creative writing. Students are given a scenario in which aliens threaten planet Earth using each of the objects. Students complete 5 modules in which they learn about each object. Each module has different activies to showcase students' learning: webs, poems, short stories, flow maps, models, etc.
At the end, students write a plan of action for dealing with the aliens. In a descriptive essay, they explain how each resource from each module can be defeated and destroyed. This combines creativity with writing and science instruction!
Students can work individually, as a class, or in a small group. It is designed to work with Science textbooks, but you may use supplemental materials from your own collection.
