Space Spinoffs: NASA in Your Life
by Tiny Space Adventures
Throughout the course of its over 50-year history, in order to fulfill its mission needs, NASA has created many unique and innovative technologies. Often times these innovations find uses outside of their original aerospace applications, surprising us by ending up in everyday items, enriching our daily lives.
In this lesson, students will gain an understanding that many of the items used in their lives today are a product from the space program. Students will learn which popular items are and are not space spinoffs, as well as, match NASA’s use of a product to consumer’s use of the product.
Students will be surprised to find that the wireless headset they use to play xbox came about so that Neil Armstrong could say 'One Small Step For Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind" when he took his 1st steps on the Moon, and that the cosmetics which women wear has been improved because of 3-d mapping techniques used for the moon.
This lesson includes:
25 space spinoff cards (6 of which are not real spinoffs...can you guess which are fake?..answers are provided)
Matching activity page for review/assessment or just for fun!
