This is the second topic from my Space Technology & Engineering class I taught to high school students. It is also used for training my Florida Astronaut Challenge team, For more information on that, go here: http://www.astronautchallenge.com/
This slide set probably covers 1 class period. Topics include:
1) The main parts of the Space Shuttle orbiter
2) Aerodynamic parts of the Shuttle
3) Newton's Laws of Motion
4) Forces on an airplane
5) Mach number
6) Turbo jets (just an intro)
Most of the material is taken from a couple of websites. This is the main one: https://www.grc.nasa.gov/www/k-12/airplane/airplane.html (you may want to make your own material, or add to this one using this info)
The links are included in the PowerPoints.
This lecture could also easily be used in an engineering or Physics class at any level (topic would include Newton's Laws of motion)
