A fun way for students to learn about space while practicing Reading Comprehension Skills. This unit is focused on the CCSS standards RI2.1, 2.2, 2.9, W 2.7; RI 3.1, 3.2, 3.9, W3.7. Hopefully, even if you are not teaching Common Core, this unit will still be helpful to teach and review reading comprehension and writing.
There are 12 short informational texts about space and the planets. There is a fact sheet about each planet with a place for students to write important facts about each. Students complete graphic organizer, matching activities, and answer questions about key facts. They compare and contrast planets and their likely aliens. There is a main idea and supporting details graphic organizer and question sheet. Finally, they are given facts about a fictitious planet and asked to design their own alien.
