Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun, a story by Maria Dismondy is about a girl named Lucy who is bullied for being different by a boy at school named Ralph. She shows much courage and many lessons are learned.
A great BACK TO SCHOOL read aloud!
After reading this story, have the students recap the settings, characters, plot and themes.
The students will also have the opportunity to write sentences using some of the vocabulary from the story.
Another fun activity that students will complete, is coming up with a new title and cover for the book.
An anti-bullying button will also be designed by the students.
Also included is a "Lucy" and a "Ralph" acrostic. They can be used to do a character sketch on Lucy and Ralph. A character trait sheet is included to facilitate writing the acrostics.
The "courage" acrostic included can be used to brainstorm what courage means to the students.
Standing up for yourself vs. tattletaling will also be explored, as well as a sheet where students explain what makes them special.
A word make and sentence sheet are also included.
Media Literacy Activities are also included!
Students will create a comic strip and poster using the templates provided. A poster rubric is also included.
