Mateo Churro and Sofía Chihuahua are two middle school pen pals. In this activity Mateo writes a letter to Sofía. The reader works to translate the letter and then writes a back to Mateo based on the details about Sofía. The reader/writer will need to have basic concepts of greetings, family members, personal adjectives, classes and the verbs tener and ser. The questions are in bold to help students identify what they need to answer and what verb to use. This is an excellent writing activity that can be used for individual students or a cooperative group. I have left it in Microsoft Word, so that you may edit it to fit the needs of your classroom.
