This engaging interview activity
reinforces the question, "Como estas hoy?"
and requires students to explain why they feel that way.
Students first receive a piece of paper with a feeling (example: contento/a, enfermo/a, emocionado/a) and need to them choose a logical "reason" for feeling this way from the list and write a sentence
(example: "Yo estoy nervioso porque tengo un examen dificil manana.") The sentence is a fill in the blank sentence.
Then, students need to interview 6 classmates and ask, "Como estas hoy?"
The classmates then respond with their information and the original student writes down what he/she says (example: "Yo estoy enfermo hoy porque me duele la garganta").
After all 6 classmates are interviewed, students choose 3 of the classmates and rewrite the information so it talks about their classmates (versus their classmates' original answers).
For example, the student would write: "Joey esta enfermo hoy porque le duele la garganta." The form of "estar" will definitely change, and possibly other information will change in the sentence as well.
Included in this activity are:
1) 21 common feelings slips
(that need to be cut up)
2) a worksheet that introduces the activity and provides students with 22 different "reasons"
from which they choose to explain their feeling
3) a worksheet where students write down their 6 interviewees' responses
then convert 3 of the responses to talk about the classmate
This activity is ideal for a Spanish 1 class to practice the verb "estar"
as well as understand the various feelings.
