Last year, I had each of my 8th grade students in Spanish 1 make an interactive journal for our class. The outcome was not as successful as I hoped and I believe this was because of all the different types of foldouts that are often required to make interactive journals. One thing I learned is that most children, even 8th graders, spend a lot of time cutting and pasting or end up making a mess, which leaves little to no time to actually learn the content.
This time around, I set out on a mission to create an interactive journal with all the same content, but came up with what I believe to be a much more effective and engaging way to do it. I have provided pre-labeled pockets that are really easy to make, short but effective grammar lessons, and pre-typed vocabulary lists. I have also included a page with guidelines and suggestions on how to create and use the journal. I truly believe anyone that is teaching Spanish to beginners and perhaps even intermediate learners will benefit from this journal and will enjoy having their students make it as they are learning the language.
