This is the first product of my new series "Spanish 1 - Reading Comprehension."
In this original text (that has numbered lines), the author talks about her family. The vocabulary focuses are: family members, professions, adjectives, and "likes."
While reading the brief text, students need to circle the cognates
that they recognize, write thoughts
in the margins, and insert question marks
where they are unsure of the text.
When finished with reading the text, students answer 8 comprehension questions
that vary in format - some are true/false and multiple choice,
written in English. The last two are open-ended questions
that are written in English but students need to respond in Spanish in complete sentences.
For each of the questions, students need to cite the line number and words that provided "evidence" to their answer.
Most of the questions are more advanced - students need to figure out the answers given the context. They are not always explicitly stated in the text. Students need to use critical thinking skills to figure out the answers.
This is a great activity to teach students to improve their reading comprehension skills and feel more confident on various reading tasks and assessments. This product can be used as practice or an assessment with students.
