Students are introduced to the preterite tense (regular and irregular verbs) from a natural approach. They see examples of the tense in sentences and using their prior knowledge of how conjugation works, they determine the preterite endings. The practice is scaffold. First they match subjects with example sentences. Second, they translate sentences from English that includes their vocabulary. They also read sentences in Spanish and draw them. Great input!
An explanation of –car, -gar, -zar verbs is also included.
A great homework assignment or in class assignment.
I use this activity in conjunction with the Realidades / Auténtico series chapter 2B.
