As a Spanish teacher, I always wanted to use realia in class, including songs, but sometimes the grammar, slang, or theme didn't really fit with what I was trying to do. Years ago, I started writing songs that fit my curriculum, theme, and grammar, and performed them with my students. This is one of my best ones.
In 2012, my class and I read a few parts of No Impact Man (in English), where the author made the case for reducing his environmental footprint down to almost zero. The song, written from a student's perspective, is like an open letter to those who have come before, who knew that they were doing damage, but unlike in No Impact Man, chose to do nothing. The song is activist and somewhat angry in nature, meant to provoke a response in my students. Listen to the preview to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
