Rainbow readings are a fun way to tackle reading skills, grammar, and comprehension while helping students identify their mastery of specific skills! Rainbow readings are designed to incorporate common core skills - reading for meaning and also analyzing how grammar works, how it sets the tone, and how it is used in authentic context.
Each one has a one-page reading passage with color-coded highlighting challenges. There is also a page of comprehension questions and an instruction page for the teacher to explore options of how to incorporate this activity in the classroom.
(This passage is the same as the choral reading passage for the same topic, but the coded reading tasks are different. The choral reading works more on speaking and pronunciation than the rainbow reading. The comprehension questions are the same.)
The context of the reading is someone complaining about how she had to do ALL the things at home over the weekend and her brothers and sisters didn't do ANYTHING to help - it's a little sassy and uses preterite.
No prep - just print and go!
