To summarize the causes, major events, and results of the Spanish-American War.
1 class period
The lesson begins with story and map exercise about the Spanish-American War. After reading through each section with the class, students need some time to complete a series of directions for mapwork.
NOTE: I recommend providing colored pencils, if available. My students have always liked doing map exercises and using colored pencils adds to their enjoyment.
After completing the Map Exercise, for homework, students will read through a list of 20 events and determine whether each one happened before, during, or after the Spanish-American War. There are also two Thought Questions, which help develop critical thinking skills. Answers can be given and discussed at the beginning of the next class.
Easy-to-follow Teacher Instructions and answer key included, along with a 20-question follow up quiz to assess student progress. The quiz can also be given as a homework assignment.
