In the Spanish American War Primary Source Packet students may analyze two historical questions:
- Explosion of the Maine - Which account do you find more believable?
- Why did the US invade Cuba?
Students learn about the Spanish American War, key players and events, Yellow Journalism, Cause/Effect, and learn historical skills such as sourcing, corroboration, and analysis. Each packet takes a class period (45 - 60 minutes) so I tend to give my students the option of which historical question to investigate which adds an element of excitement with the choice. It also provokes great dialogue and historical curiosity!
