This activity is an interesting, real-world application of comparing and contrasting information found on receipts between Spain and the US. This is primarily a culture activity since the activity is in English. This product is ideal for any level Spanish class but may be more appropriate at a lower level since it is in English.
Five authentic receipts from various cafes and restaurants in Madrid, Spain are included. Students must decipher the information found on the receipts to answer the questions in English. Although students are only given the Spanish receipts, they must make comparisons to information in the US. Such comparisons may include number of digits in telephone numbers and zip codes, the amount of sales tax, currency, addresses, and more.
Students then complete a Venn diagram comparing the US and Spain based on information found on the receipts. You will be amazed at the connections student will make between the two countries as they complete this activity!
This activity can be edited to suit the needs of your classroom.
