Skip the boring grammar lesson and teach your students how to conjugate regular verbs in the present tense using this simple board game!
In order to play this game, students should first be familiar with understanding how to conjugate AR/ER/IR verbs in the present tense. They should also know the following Spanish verbs:
BAILAR – to dance
VIVIR – to live
LEER – to read
CORRER – to run
ESCRIBIR – to write
TOCAR (la guitarra) – to play (the guitar)
ESQUIAR – to ski
HABLAR (por teléfono) – to talk (on the phone)
DIBUJAR – to draw
JUGAR (videojuegos) – to play (videogames)
NADAR – to swim
VER (la tele) – to see/watch (TV)
CANTAR – to sing
MONTAR (en bicicleta) – to ride (a bike)
COMER – to eat
BEBER – to drink
Print out the next three pages on cardstock for the game board, (laminate or use page protectors for durability). Then, place all three pages side by side to make one game board as seen above.
Instructions for playing the game can be found on the game board itself. You will need one dice per game and one “game marker” for each player. Recommended number of students per game is 4-5 players.
How to Play…
Place your marker at the start (COMIENZO). Roll the dice and move forward counting in Spanish. When you land on a square, conjugate the appropriate verb in the Present Tense. If you conjugate the correct verb properly, move forward one square. If you don’t know the verb or conjugate it incorrectly, stay put. If you land on a square that says, ¡DOS PASOS ADELANTE!, move forward two squares. If you land on a square that says, ¡UN PASO ATRAS!, move back one square. The first person to get to the finish (FINAL) wins the game.
Teacher Tip! Use the visual aid at the end to go over verbs in the infinitive prior to playing the game!
