This worksheet includes two pages story written about the history of the House of Tiles (Casa de Azulejos) that is located in Mexico City. Students will read to learn about the legend of the count whose father told him he would never amount to a house of tiles as well as the other legend that tells of a widow who wanted to show off her family's wealth by covering her house in talavera tiles. The history continues with the period of the Mexican Revolution and the house becoming a pharmacy/restaurant thanks to the Sanborn brothers.
Students will answer 20 questions about what they read. This is a great way to combine reading in the target language with learning about culture. To incorporate grammar too, ask students to find preterite and imperfect tense verbs.
