This Spanish Culture Presentation Rubric is a great way to teach Spanish speaking countries culture. When Spanish teachers usually give cultural presentation projects they will assign each student a different Spanish speaking country, then they will present on very superficial or general topics about the country. In this assignment, the class will vote on a Spanish speaking country and then each student will be given a different category (35+ to choose from; listed on the rubric) to present on. That way the class will learn very much in depth on one single country rather than touching the surface on many different ones. When the class decides on a country, each student owns their category and becomes excited to teach it.

NOTE: There is a grading section on the rubric titled "Class Contribution" where students can earn points for. This part of the project gives the students the opportunity to summarize their research down to 1-2 sentences and add it to the large poster paper that the teacher as prepared. This poster paper should have each student's category and a blank space next to it to allow them to fill it in. The poster is to be displayed in the classroom throughout the unit. Commands Teaching Project Rubric
In this project students are to prepare a quick lesson on how to do an activity (how to tie your shoe, how to play lacrosse, etc). Students will tell their classmates in a presentation how to do their activity showing props. Students should include positive and negative commands in the Tú form.

Spanish Adjectives Power Point (Characteristics)

Spanish Adjectives PowerPoint
A colorful and engaging Spanish Adjectives PowerPoint teaching the concept of basic characteristics in Spanish. It starts helping students understand the difference between masculine and feminine uses of adjectives, then singular and plural. Practices are thrown in throughout to help assess. There is also a paper/pencil practice at the end that can be used. This uses the inductive method of teaching which is where students must find the pattern and determine the rule of the concept, rather than the teacher telling them what it is. This helps students better retain the information and use it in context. The PowerPoint contains images that students can relate to. Contains 67 slides!

This PowerPoint uses the Inductive Method of teaching. This is where students are given several different examples of the Spanish Formal vs Informal using phrases and images. Students then determine what the differences are and create their own rules. This engages the student more in the presentation and helps them remember the material better since they are taking part in the learning themselves.

Note: going through the entire presentation with an actual class usually takes about 40 minutes depending on type of students, teacher, etc. It is recommended that you teach the masculine/feminine part on one day then when the students are ready to move on teach the singular/plural part another day.

This survey goes through all forms (minus VOSOTROS) of the verb SER helping the students conjugate the verb and agree the characteristic correctly in a sentence. They use the vocab and grammar in context as they go around asking their classmates then writing out the results to you. This survey can be altered by eliminating the ELLOS/ELLAS and NOSOTROS(AS) part for beginning students.

This is a fun practice activity to do with students when they are working with reflexives. Play the song "Y No Hago Más Na'" by El Gran Combo. Pause several times during the video and go back a few seconds to help students listen closely. As they do they are to fill in the blanks. There is a key at the top with the verbs in the infinitive to help them. When it's all filled in, sing the song together as a class!

Spanish Reflexives Class Activity Survey (LOS REFLEXIVOS)

Reflexives Survey Activity
A list of questions are given using the reflexive TÚ form. Students are to ask themselves these questions, then answer them in a complete sentence using the reflexive YO form. Then they are to go around asking classmates these questions, recording their answers. After they will write down the results on the back of the survey for you to assess them in the 3rd person (singular and plural) and in the NOSOTROS(AS) form. I have found great success doing this activity with my students who love using the language more in class.

This Spanish Definite Articles PowerPoint is a colorful and engaging Power Point that teaches the uses of the Spanish Definite Articles (el, la, los, las). This uses basic vocabulary from classroom objects (la carpeta, el cuaderno, etc) to help teach when to use the different types of definite articles. This has been tried and tested in actual classrooms and the results have been amazing! This has a total of 27 slides with 28 practice questions at the end. The instructor can choose to assess the students by using the activity "Vote with your Feet." This is where the instructor designates each corner of the classroom as a different definite article then displays a word without the definite article. The students then stand in the corner they believe to be the correct answer. Those who are correct continue playing, those who are incorrect must sit down (kind of like the game "4 Corners"). Students love this method of assessing and ask for it all the time.
