Engage your students in regateando en español. Teach students to barter - a typical way to shop at Spanish markets. This activity includes a checklist for the skit, a rubric for scoring, and a list of useful vocabulary for bartering in the Spanish language. Please see the description from the activity overview below:
You are visiting your pen pal, Marisela, in Madrid, España for two weeks during your summer vacation. She takes you to El Rastro, an open-air market in downtown Madrid, on the first Sunday morning of your arrival. You find some clothes that you want to purchase. Bargain (regatear) with the vendor for the two items. Use no less than four conversational exchanges with the vendor. You may use a small notecard with words/phrases in English to prompt your response, but no Spanish may be included.
