Build confidence in your new Spanish 1 students by showing them how much Spanish they already know! This game is perfect for back to school or even the first day of Spanish class. This modified flyswatter game allows students to read a sentence FULL of cognates (absolutely no words that AREN'T cognates!), think about the meaning of the sentence, and then choose which of the four pictures it describes.
Unlike traditional flyswatter, every student gets to play in every round! I've included a flyswatter handout with boxes numbered 1-4 for students to play in pairs and keep score on. No more waiting your turn to go up to the board or zoning out because your turn is up. 100% participation!
The slideshow has animations to allow time for students to look at and understand the sentence before seeing the pictures. There are 40 game slides and sentences total! More than enough to play for an entire period or two.
Included are the editable Google Slides slideshow, which includes student directions in both Spanish and English and 43 slides total, the flyswatter student handout, and directions for the teacher on how to use the product.
If you have any questions at all, please let me know! I think this activity is a great confidence booster on day 1 of the school year and definitely promotes active learning. Enjoy! :)
