Hello! If you are looking for a way to communicate with your Spanish-speaking students (but you don’t know Spanish) this packet is perfect for you!The simplest commands become the most challenging when there is a language barrier. This packet provides classroom communication that visual aids and non-verbal cues can’t. As I struggled to communicate with my English language learner, I collected some of the most important phrases and questions I used throughout the year. This packet includes questions, commands, responses, and phrases for both teacher and student that are needed for daily functioning. Example: A question is listed in English and Spanish. Beside the question is the response in English and Spanish. This helps you and your student communicate more efficiently. Your student will likely be able to read some, maybe all, of the Spanish (depending on age and level) if you say something incorrectly (just point to the sentence/question). This packet can also help your student learn valuable communication in English. There is also a peer communication script. While the classroom communication sentences (commands/questions/interests/directions) are useful for all grade levels throughout the year, there are several slides that are beneficial for reading and writing teachers (reading conference scripts and writing prompts). Information can be adapted to fit your needs. For example, there is a sheet with ten homophones and the explanation of what homophones are. You can include this information for other homophones you study. You can also use the directions for compare and contrast and find the differences. Much of the information can be personalized (writing prompt instruction/activity words for scheduling/draw a line for matching). Because of this flexibility, you will enjoy communicating with your student throughout the year.
