Need a fun activity to help teach Spanish/Hispanic/Latino culture? Want to end the school year with a BANG? Or...begin the year with something that will capture all of your students' attention? Here is a project that will captivate them! This idea is for Spanish classes, but can be cross-applied to other world languages.
Included are 4 pages of instructions (including two editable rubrics in Spanish and in English). There is also a YouTube link for a hilarious video example that will really grab your students' attention and get them thinking on a whole new creative level....!
This idea has students work in small teams to create a video project. They will need to interact with younger children and have access to technology and be somewhat savvy with video editing (iPads, computers, video editing software). Students will need to ask younger siblings, elementary students, neighbor kids, etc. help out with the project. They didn't seem to have problems locating parents who allowed their children to participate with this fun activity.
Length of time for this project is around 1-2 weeks. Out-of-class time will be required.
Final videos can be shown in a "film festival" setting. Students can vote on their favorites and prizes can be awarded.
This is meant to be pretty "loose." There is SO MUCH room for creativity and freedom!
In the end, your students will learn a wide array of Hispanic culture and will have made an incredibly creative video product that can be enjoyed and shared for years to come!
