Assessment: Are you teaching about environmental issues in an upper-level Spanish class? This reading and listening interpretive assessment has students working with an authentic video and article to determine main idea, supporting details, words from context and make an inference. The topic is whaling, something rarely studied but it will definitely get your students interested! This assessment will take students about 60 minutes to complete, and could be split over two days (one day for reading and one day for listening). Both PDF and Google Doc version included.
Follow-Up Activity: Chile has spoken out time and time again about this issue, so after students do the interpretive assessment and gain background information, there is a follow-up activity included (link to Google Slides) to have them practice with commands (or subjunctive)! Learn about what Chile has done to protest whaling and then have students come up with creative sentences based on images.
