In the primary grades, students may need a guide to help them be successful writers. When our students were learning about expository writing, they wrote about sea animals.
This packet includes the following Spanish templates for expository texts about five marine animals: el tiburón (shark), el león marino (sea lion), la ballena (whale), el cangrejo (crab), la estrella del mar (sea star/starfish):
-Cover of the book with the title and space for an illustration
-A table of contents
-Page 1: What does the animal look like?
-Page 2: Where does the animal live?
-Page 3: What does the animal eat?
-Page 4: What is something you found interesting about the animal?
These books can be used for assessment, centers, or homework. These books help students build an understanding of the layout of an informational book. When students are comfortable with the expectation, then they can write without the structure. Many students added pages to their books to make it their own. For example, one student added a fifth page on what the animal needed to survive. Another student added two interesting facts about the animal.
