Newly Updated: I re-designed this to be easier to cut out, revised a bit, and also added an editable version!
Sentence mixer games are one of my favorite ways to add collaborative learning to my class! Groups work together to assemble sentences using the target verb tense or grammar skill.
This file includes instructions on how to make the most of this game – with an easier option that takes 15 minutes, and a more challenging option that can fill over a half hour.
The sentences are intentionally designed to keep reviewing syntax, word order, and agreement. Each set includes 10 scrambles, and there is at least one negative statement to practice negation, one question to practice interrogative word order, and one phrase that uses “nuestra clase” or something similar – a group that is a single subject.
This activity reviews formal commands - usted and ustedes.
Sentence mixers take a little bit of prep - I cut apart all the pieces and put each set in a snack-sized Ziplock bag. But once that's done, you can keep them to use for each class for years to come.
