Students love this game as a review game or on a day when you have extra time. If you've ever played Catch Phrase, this is the same thing, just the homemade version. It's sort of a cross between Outburst and Hot Potato. Cut up all the words into small slips and put them all into a gallon size ziplock baggie. Have students sit in a circle or move their desks into a circle. Teams will be every other student, so the people sitting on both sides of me are NOT on my team, but the person are on the same team as each other. Pick a random amount of time and set a stop watch. Have a student start by picking out a word from the baggie and not letting anyone else see it. He or She should describe the word in Spanish. For example, if the word was "manzana", he or she could say "fruta, roja, verde, comer" or the more advanced student could give phrases, "es una fruta roja o verde. tambien es un jugo." Once students from their team have guessed the word, they can pass the bag, leaving OUT the word that was just guessed. Now, it's the other team's turn to describe and guess the word. When the timer goes off, the team that does NOT have the bag in their hand gets a point. Therefore, you want to describe the word and get rid of the bag as quickly as possible. I suggest playing this in small groups of about 10 as it can be difficult to determine teams in larger groups and students on the other side of the circle in larger groups might not be able to hear and become uninterested. Happy game playing!
