This activity is a fun, real-world application of looking at a menu from a pizza restaurant in Madrid, Spain and responding to questions in Spanish. Each of the questions uses a O--UE (almorzar, encontrar, poder, costar, volver) or E--I stem-changing verb (servir, pedir). This activity is ideal for a Spanish 2+ class - students should be familiar with stem-changing verbs prior to completing this activity.
Students begin by viewing the authentic menu from a pizza restaurant in Madrid.
Students respond to the seven questions about the menu individually. Each question must be answered in a complete sentence with the given stem-changing verb.
Next, students interview classmates and ask them each of the 7 questions in Spanish. Students can interview just one classmate or interview 7 different classmates. Students record the information in notes in a chart. Finally, students work with the same information as they write complete sentences in the third person. Because of this activity, three of the six verb forms are practiced.
Two versions of the questions are included - the second version has the verbs underlined in case you want to differentiate within your classroom. My students really benefit when I underline the verbs in the questions for them.
