Provide your students with effective vocabulary building activities and guided writing practice for your unit on "Los quehaceres de la casa".
This bundle includes:
1 The first handout provides students with an abbreviated list of thematic vocabulary related to chores and leisure activities. Students are asked to find the meanings of the Spanish words and write them in the spaces provided. This can be assigned as homework or completed in class with computers and Spanishdict.com (my preferred online dictionary). You may also assign this as a collaborative activity.
2 There is a second version of the first handout that provides the instructions in English for purposes of differentiation.
3 The answer key for the first handout also explains the rationale of the word search and how it support sight word recognition. (Just in case administrators ask)
4 The second worksheet provides students with two guided writing practice activities. The first activity asks students to use the "quehaceres" and leisure activities from the first handout to write sentences that describe Juan. Example: "Juan no ayuda a otra persona. Juan descansa."
The second activity is similar to the first, but emphasizes the use of the verb, "gustar". Example: "A Juan no le gusta ayudar a otros. A Juan le gusta descansar."
5 There is also a differentiated version of the Second handout as well as an answer key.
6 A third guided writing activity provides for a review of the verbs "poder", "tener", and the "tener + que + infinitive" construction then tasks students with using verbs that are provided to write questions and responses about chores. Example: "Juan, ¿puedes poner la mesa?"
7 I have also included notes to help you facilitate an oral review activity that I call, "Sustantivos" which is similar to "Twenty Questions".
Lastely, I am including a Classroom poster of a character that is recurring is this bundle. The character is called, "Juan 'Chico' Perez Soso" © and is intended to offer a lighter side to learning. (The image is an original photograph and the character is my own creation. Unauthorized use is not permitted.
