Main Idea - Spanish
I am dedicated to creating products that help kids build comprehension skills. The concept of a main idea with supporting details can be tricky for young learners. These passages are designed to help students become confident identifying the main idea of a text and understanding how details support the main idea.
This file includes 14 short passages. Each passage is presented twice.
In the first version, students read the passage and then answer two multiple choice questions and one short answer question. The first multiple choice question with each passage asks about main idea. The second multiple choice question consistently asks about a supporting detail. The short answer (written response) questions include topics such as author’s purpose and distinguishing fact from detail.
In the second version, students identify, underline and then write the main idea. They then complete a simple graphic organizer by filling in three supporting details. (A full page version of this graphic organizer is also included.)
I find that, with guided practice, kids quickly develop the skills they need to identify main idea and understand the relationship between the main idea and supporting details.
Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a look!
Sincerely, Anne Gardner (NBCT, Literacy)
