I created this bundle of puzzles to help my students with word recognition and spelling during the numbers unit.
The first two puzzles are variations of the traditional word search. Students are given puzzles that contain numbers 1-100 but they are not given the words to help them search. They are, however, asked to write the words that they find in order to receive credit.
The third puzzle list several numerals across the top of a grid and students are instructed to spell the numbers vertically. If their responses are correct, and correctly spelled, their puzzle will reveal the name of a place in South America. On the same handout, there is a second activity where the numbers are spelled from left to right.
These puzzles are designed to provide helpful practice with a fresh twist to keep students engaged. They will be valuable additions to your current numbers unit and are especially great bell ringers, differentiation activities, and productive time fillers. You can also include them in your substitute teacher plans.
As an added bonus, I am also including an original photograph of a mask of "Diablo Huma" taken in Ecuador. The photograph makes a great classroom poster and cultural conversation piece.
