Give your students an incentive to participate in class with these fun sombreros. Simply print out as many sheets as you need, laminate (if you would like), and cut out the adorable sombreritos. If you don't want to print them in color, they look great in black and white. You could even print them on colored paper.
There are numerous ways to use these sombreros. You can award them during certain class activities only or throughout the semester for correct answers, outstanding behavior, participation, etc. and let students redeem their sombreros for prizes or extra points.
Since they might be hard for students to keep up with, I award them and collect them on the same day. For example, when we start a new unit, I give my students their new vocabulary list that contains the Spanish words only. I describe each word in Spanish using short and simple clues that they understand. Students receive a sombrero for raising their hand and giving the correct English meaning. I give students a 100 daily grade for getting at least one sombrero, and they receive either extra points or candy for each additional sombrero. My students absolutely love "Sombrero Day," and I know yours will too!
