This is a handout for each student to keep and have out during speaking activities. I walk around the room with a green highlighter and a pink highlighter during speaking activities and students that are on-task, following directions, and doing their speaking activity get a green mark in the box for that day (worth 2 points). Students that are speaking in English or off-task get a pink mark, meaning they lose a point. Students keep the Comunicación paper for a month and at the end of the month it becomes a participation grade and they get a fresh paper. This paper minimizes off-task behavior because they can see their grade in front of them - and they really don't want a pink mark! Students caught off-task will usually get to work very quickly as soon as they see the pink highlighter! Markers, pens, or colored pencils would also work fine, as well as any other colors. This paper could also be used in any other language class!
