This interactive activity combines the history & culture of Cuba
and the present perfect tense.
In this activity students are asked to pair up and write a hypothetical interview. One student is the interviewee and the other student is "someone who lives in Cuba" or "has traveled to or lived in Cuba before."
The students need to use relevant history and knowledge of Cuba to interview each other using the present perfect tense. Intertwined in their responses are facts about Cuba's history and its current state.
For example, one exchange could be:
Persona A: "Has comprado un coche nuevo?
Persona B: "No, no he comprado un coche nuevo porque Cuba no tiene muchos coches nuevos despues del embargo con EEUU."
In order to provide the historical context of Cuba within the interview, the student's must have a background on Cuba's history.
This is a fantastic, relatively new National Geographic article that does a great job of providing a well-rounded view of what life in Cuba is like nowadays: "Cuba's New Now" - National Geographic, November 2012
There are also numerous free worksheets available here on TpT from other seller's regarding Cuban history - just do a quick search!
The document can be edited
, and I went through and highlighted some of the more subjective requirements such as 6 interview questions and responses and the grading breakdown. You can change the assignment details to fit the needs of your classroom.
Of course is it encouraged for students to present their interviews to the class when completed!
With preparation and the presentations, this assignment can take 2 days (less or more depending on any added/dropped requirements)
